Well that's interesting!
In 1975, when curators at the Québec National Assembly were restoring the paintings in the "Speakers' Gallery," they wondered why Roy's was missing. It would seem that the members of the assembly at the time had attempted to erase his existence, as he had been convicted in May 1909 of using the funds deposited in the small regional bank he ran as his personal pocketbook. Jailed that month in Laval at the end of his trial, he was transferred to a Montréal hospital at some time in 1910, and died on December 17. The papers at the time barely mentioned his death.
