Well that's interesting!
A surprising 6.81% of the 14,280 elected Canadian parliamentarians have died while in office, for a total of 972 in the 158 years covered by PoliCan, although such deaths have become less common since the last quarter of the 20th century. But on January 4, 1938, both Ryan (the Liberal MP for St. John—Albert in New Brunswick) and George Perley (the Conservative MP for Argenteuil in Quebec), died. Perley's father, William, had also died in office in 1890 while representing City of Ottawa in Parliament.
