When Braden became government leader (the equivalent of premier) of the Northwest Territories on June 16, 1980, he was the youngest person ever to reach that office anywhere in Canada. At 30 years, 7 months and 12 days, he beat the previous record holder, New Brunswick's George King, who was 30 years, 7 months and 24 days when he became premier on June 1, 1870. |
