In 1937, Unwin and a government advisor created what became known as the "Bankers' Toadies" leaflet, which urged members of the public to "exterminate" prominent bankers and politicians who were standing in the way of Social Credit monetary reform. William Griesbach, who was one of the nine men identified in the leaflet as "toadies," pressed charges against Unwin for criminal libel and counselling to murder. Unwin was sentenced to three months of hard labour on October 27. |
