When Chornohus tried to run in the 1921 general election in the riding of Whitford under the United Farmers of Alberta banner, his nomination papers were rejected by the returning officer who claimed that Chornohus had signed his name with a "Z" rather than a "S." The UFA took the matter to court and won, so the Liberal incumbent, Andrew Shandro, was unseated and then defeated in the resulting by-election. The court had found that the rejection was purely partisan and that the returning officer and Shandro were related. |
