Well that's interesting!
When Horwood died on April 6, 2006, at the age of 82, he was the last surviving member of the first Newfoundland assembly of the Confederation era, which ran from mid-1949 to late-1951. He served only one term, for although he was initially a Liberal who supported Joey Smallwood, he became by the mid-1950s one of his harshest critics. Today, he is better remembered as an accomplished novelist and non-fiction writer who was awarded the Order of Canada in 1980.
