Well that's interesting!
The first federal election held in Marquette resulted in a tie, so the return of the writ of election was amended to declare that both Lynch and Angus McKay had been duly elected. McKay chose not to run in the following election in which Lynch was defeated by Robert Cunningham, who died five months into his second term.
