Well that's interesting!
Elected as a Nova Scotia Anti-Confederation MP, Campbell crossed the floor of Parliament to join the Liberal-Conservative Party when his party began to collapse in September 1868, making him perhaps the first MP to cross in the history of the modern Canadian Parliament. Historians believe it was probably his support for the Conservative government that provoked an Antigonish crowd to pelt him with eggs at a social occasion that month.
