Well that's interesting!
Howard had a troubled childhood. His mother was a prostitute while his father was believed to have been her pimp. Sent to an orphanage at the age of 12 and a succession of foster homes after that, he engaged in a month-long crime spree with an accomplice in the summer of 1943 that included robbing two jewellery stores and a hotel while armed with a revolver. Convicted for these crimes, he served 20 months in a federal penitentiary before being released in May 1945. He went on to become a respectable and respected social democratic politician from British Columbia, both provincially and federally.
