Well that's interesting!
That Scott was gay was an open secret while he was in office, but he spoke of it openly only after he had left politics. He opposed same-sex marriage on the grounds that it reflected the values of a society which, for years, treated homosexuals as pariahs, but he later expressed regret that his government did not introduce spousal benefits for same-sex couples.
