Well that's interesting!
A Liberal who never ran for office, McWilliams was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba in 1940, serving until 1953. He was a staunch supporter of temperance, and although prohibition was long over, he insisted that alcohol was never served at Government House during his tenure.
