Wilson was the first woman appointed to the Canadian Senate, under the advice of Mackenzie King. She was the wife of one-term Liberal MP for Russell, Norman Wilson, and sister-in-law of the MP for the same riding from 1887 to 1903, William Cameron Edwards.
