Well that's interesting!
In 1935, at the height of the Great Depression, Bird, a Manitoba physician and surgeon and son of MLA John Bird in the 1890s, cancelled all debts owed to him by farmers. He tried twice to be elected to the legislature as a Liberal Progressive (in 1932 and 1936), but without success.
