Well that's interesting!
A Conservative senator from British Columbia, Planta had to resign his seat in 1935 when he was sentenced to two years in jail for fraud, namely using $700 of a client's funds for personal use instead of the client's mortgage. While $700 in 1935 had the purchasing power of over $15,000 in 2023, it still brings the mind of any sane and ethical person to boggle.
