Well that's interesting!
Kempling, the Progressive Conservative MP for Burlington from 1972 to 1993, had been a veteran of World War II. Surviving the crash of his plane when it was shot down over the jungle in Burma, he was taken prisoner by the Japanese army and interned in a P.O.W. camp until he was able to escape, making his way through the jungle where he was rescued and brought to safety in Allied territory.
