Well that's interesting!
First elected in 1962 as the Liberal MP for Brant—Haldimand, Pennell sat in Parliament for only six years. But, as solicitor general in the Pearson government from '65 to '68, he led the charge to end capital punishment and helped with the creation of the Canada Student Loan Program. After leaving politics in 1968, he was named judge on the Ontario Supreme Court while being chancellor of McMaster University from 1971 to 1977.
