Nicholas, an Ontario Liberal who served a single term as the MPP for Scarborough Centre before being defeated by the NDP's Steve Owens in 1990, had become, in 1977, the first woman to complete a two-way swim of the English Channel. She died from liver cancer in 2016, at the age of 58. |
