Well that's interesting!
Failing to win one of the two seats for Victoria in the 1939, 1944 and 1948 New Brunswick general elections, the (Progressive)-Conservative Powers finally got one in 1952. Named Speaker of the Assembly in 1954 after the death of Elmer Kennedy, he, too, died in office — two years after being elected. He was 59.
