Leaving one’s party to join another after being elected is far from a new phenomenon. It has been happening in Canada since the beginning of Confederation. However, it hasn’t happen often.

At least, not directly from one party to another.

But when one considers those who end up sitting as independents because they fell out with or were expelled from their party, that number increases sharply.
