How many people have been elected so far?
(And name them while you're at it!)

Have you ever wondered how many people have been elected to Parliament or the legislative assemblies since they've been in existence? Well, maybe you haven't, but I have! And it's 14,275 persons — 12,918 men, 1,352 women, and 5 persons identifying as non-binary. Among them, 4,548 are (or are believed to be) still alive: 3,405 men, 1,138 women, and all non-binary individuals.

Although they are not legion, some people never sat in the legislature to which they were elected. A few examples:

• Percival Baker (1867–1921) was the elected United Farmers of Alberta candidate in Ponoka in the 1921 general election, but he had had an accident while chopping down trees on his farm three weeks prior to the election and he died the day after his election.
   
• Théodore-Louis-Antoine Broët (1870–1908), a Québec Liberal born in France, was elected in Lac-Saint-Jean in the 1908 general election, but he died on September 14, 1908, before the first sitting of the 12th assembly.
   
• F. Ann Sloat (1928–2017) was elected as the Progressive Conservative MPP in a December 1984 by-election in Wentworth North, but the Ontario legislature was not in session and she lost the seat in the 1985 general election.

• The number in an F (Federal) or P (Provincial/Territorial) cell for each jurisdiction leads to the corresponding list of people.
  • Numbers in the first row for a jurisdiction lead to the full list.
  • Those in the second row lead to only those who are still alive.
• However, for the last row (Total), only the F cells are active and lead to the corresponding list of people.
• Finally, the "Diff." rows at the end of the table adjust the counts so that the same person is counted only once.
